Bhubaneswar, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, Surama Padhy, organized an all-party gathering on Wednesday, aiming for solid collaboration from both the opposition and ruling benches to ensure a smooth and peaceful execution of the Winter Session, which is set to commence on Thursday.
Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling addressed the media, stating that the all-party discussion took place under the leadership of Speaker Padhy.
Representatives from the three major political parties, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and the Indian National Congress, were in attendance. Notable figures included Leader of the House and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, and Congress leader Rama Chandra Kadam.
“A consensus was reached that both ruling and opposition parties would work together to facilitate the effective functioning of the session, which starts on November 27 and runs until December 31. Notably, President Droupadi Murmu, a source of pride for Odisha, will address the Assembly for the first time tomorrow afternoon. This is a joyous occasion for all of us, and all requisite preparations have been finalized,” Mahaling remarked.
BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik highlighted that thorough discussions were conducted regarding the President's address and the various bills to be introduced during this session.
“Numerous issues relevant to the state government will be brought to light, including law and order and paddy procurement concerns,” added Mallik.
Kadam also shared with the media that his party intends to highlight issues regarding law and order, tribal rights, and the enforcement of the Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act, among others.
The fifth session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will comprise 29 working days and is slated to conclude on December 31.
According to the agenda, the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure (Budget) for the financial year 2025–26 will be presented in the House on Friday, followed by the introduction of the Appropriation Bill on December 8.
