Odisha Assembly's Winter Session Concluded Sine Die

Bhubaneswar, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly has officially concluded as Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the house sine die on Wednesday after completing 12 working days.

This second session of the 17th Odisha Assembly began on November 26 and was initially set to run until December 31.

Originally, the session was planned to last for 30 days.

During this Winter Session, a supplementary budget of Rs 12,156 crore was approved on December 5.

Additionally, two more bills, including the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024, were passed.

Throughout the session, 10 private members' bills were introduced in the Assembly.

Members of the opposition, particularly from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), claimed that the ruling party hastily concluded the session out of fear of being challenged on various critical issues.

The House experienced intense debates between opposition parties and the ruling BJP on multiple occasions during the session.

The BJD and Congress members attempted to hold the state government accountable for numerous contentious matters, including the ongoing Polavaram Project in Andhra Pradesh, the tragic deaths of three tribals from Kandhamal due to mango kernel consumption, and the non-payment of salaries to Mission Shakti Support staff.

The opposition created significant disruptions in the house over these issues, leading Speaker Padhy to adjourn the assembly multiple times.

Moreover, on the final day of the Winter Session, there was a substantial uproar concerning ongoing protests in Bhubaneswar by support staff under the Mission Shakti department, as well as the relocation of the East Coast Railway’s Waltair division to the new South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone.
