Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 (NationPress) The Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, stated on Friday that the state government is thoroughly equipped to tackle any circumstances arising from an impending cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal.
During a media briefing, Suresh Pujari remarked, “We have proactively devised comprehensive plans to address any potential scenarios, and we stand fully ready. It would be beneficial for Odisha if the cyclone bypasses the state. However, even in the event of its arrival, we are prepared to confront the situation.”
The Minister also mentioned that both the government and district administrations in at-risk areas are on high alert and prepared to handle any emergencies.
He advised residents to remain calm, emphasizing that Odisha has a commendable history of effectively managing cyclones.
Furthermore, the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister highlighted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted three cyclonic systems between October 21 and 30. While the first system spared Odisha, a new low-pressure area has developed and is shifting west-northwest.
The IMD anticipates that this will escalate into a cyclonic storm by October 27, potentially leading to moderate to heavy rainfall and wind gusts of 30–40 km/h across southern, western, and central districts on October 28 and 29.
The IMD also issued warnings indicating that the system might evolve into a depression by October 25, transform into a deep depression by October 26, and become a cyclonic storm over the southwestern and adjacent west-central regions of the Bay of Bengal by October 27.
In the meantime, IMD official Dr. Manorama Mohanty has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea from October 26 to 29.
Dr. Mohanty further warned that numerous coastal and inland districts may experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, during this timeframe.
