Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, celebrated the remarkable achievement of hosting the state’s inaugural Pharma Summit, deeming it a pivotal milestone in establishing Odisha as a key center for pharmaceuticals and medical devices manufacturing.
In a media briefing, the Chief Minister noted that the summit attracted participation from stakeholders in nearly 20 countries, indicating an increasing global trust in Odisha’s industrial framework. He introduced the ‘Odisha Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Policy 2025’, which includes targeted initiatives for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and technical manufacturing.
Additionally, CM Majhi laid the groundwork for a Pharma Park and a Medical Device Park in Khordha, part of the state’s long-term strategy to bolster healthcare manufacturing. He emphasized Odisha's significant role in medicine production during crises, stating that these new initiatives would further elevate the state’s contribution to India’s healthcare landscape.
Over 40 pharmaceutical manufacturing firms have expressed interest in investing in Odisha, with several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the Industries and Health Departments. Investment proposals totaling approximately Rs 25,000 crore have already been submitted. The Chief Minister announced that groundbreaking for projects exceeding this amount would commence shortly, particularly in the pharma and medical devices sectors.
On this occasion, a total of 45 MoUs worth Rs 6,263 crore were formalized, projected to generate 38,406 jobs in the state. This includes 32 MoUs for pharmaceuticals, 12 for medical devices, and one for a significant industrial park proposal.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the “Utkarsh Odisha” initiative, the Chief Minister stated that the state is on a steady path to becoming a favored destination for investors, promoting inclusive growth, industrial development, and substantial employment opportunities.
During his address at the summit, CM Majhi expressed his optimism that Odisha’s pharmaceutical sector would achieve unprecedented success in the coming years. He noted that, in terms of quality and value, Odisha’s pharmaceutical products would gain global attractiveness, and the state would also be recognized for its med-tech product manufacturing.
The Chief Minister asserted that Odisha’s pharmaceutical policy ranks among the top in the nation. The new policy offers incentives for every element of the sector, including research, capital investment, infrastructure enhancement, and job creation.
“The state is thoroughly equipped to meet all the demands of the pharmaceutical industry. Odisha boasts a completely industry-friendly environment, providing all necessary resources for industrial advancement,” stated Majhi.
