Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 12 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik expressed his pride on Thursday regarding the effective fiscal strategies implemented during his administration, which he claims have revitalized Odisha from a state of insolvency to one of the most economically robust states in the nation.
In reaction to the second annual “Fiscal Health Index” report from NITI Aayog, which ranked Odisha as the top state for the fiscal year 2023–24, Patnaik emphasized that this accomplishment is a testament to the strong financial discipline upheld throughout his governance.
Via his social media platform, Patnaik shared that it is a moment of pride for all that Odisha not only leads the nation but does so significantly, achieving a score of 73.1, far surpassing the second-place state, Goa, which scored just 54.
Addressing the current government, Patnaik remarked, “I take great satisfaction in knowing that Odisha has transitioned from near bankruptcy in 2000 to dominating the charts in every key metric, something no #DoubleEngine government has managed to accomplish in the country.”
He noted that Odisha’s transformation from a challenging fiscal situation when the BJD came into power to becoming the leading state in fiscal health showcases a vision of transformative governance based on the principles of #5T, a governance initiative introduced by CM Patnaik, aimed at improving public service delivery through Teamwork, Technology, Transparency, Timeliness, and Transformation.
“The highlights of our governance can be seen across all fiscal health parameters—be it quality of expenditure, revenue generation, fiscal prudence, or reduction of debt burden—making Odisha a model state,” Patnaik added.
He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Odisha for their role in this transformative journey, noting that the sustained fiscal stability under his leadership allowed the state to invest in numerous people-oriented initiatives, including disaster management, infrastructure enhancement, irrigation projects, poverty alleviation efforts, and food security schemes, all without relying on assistance from the Centre.
“However, I am now concerned about the financial mismanagement by the Odisha double-engine government, as it is leading the state back towards bankruptcy and stalling our development progress by 25 years. I hope reason prevails,” Patnaik asserted.
