Odisha Vigilance raids 7 locations linked to executive engineer in DA probe
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Odisha Vigilance on Monday, 13 July launched simultaneous searches across seven properties linked to executive engineer Sanjay Kumar Kispatta, as part of a disproportionate assets (DA) probe into alleged accumulation of wealth beyond his known sources of income. The operation, authorised by search warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore, marks the latest action in the agency's sustained crackdown on corrupt public servants in Odisha.
Who Is Sanjay Kumar Kispatta
Kispatta previously served as Assistant Executive Engineer and Project Administrator (P.A.) at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Koraput district. He is currently posted as Executive Engineer at Odisha Construction Corporation (OCC) Ltd, a premier state government undertaking.
Scale and Scope of the Raids
The search teams comprised six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), eight Inspectors, seven Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and additional support staff. Properties being searched include a rented accommodation at Tikra Sahi, Koraput; a four-storeyed commercial building in Koraput Town; an under-construction residential house and a landed plot in Koraput district; a parental house and an under-construction three-storeyed building at Lahunipada, Sundargarh district; and Kispatta's residential quarter and chamber in Bhubaneswar and Balangir district.
Pattern of Vigilance Action in Odisha
This operation fits into a broader enforcement pattern. Odisha Vigilance recently arrested a separate state government official whose family was allegedly found holding movable and immovable assets exceeding his known income by 372 per cent.
According to reports, the agency registered 202 cases in 2025 and arrested 212 corrupt government officials and private individuals across various graft-related offences. Of those, 49 were DA cases involving 89 individuals, while 97 trap cases were registered against 114 government officials, including 14 Class-I officers.
Assets Unearthed So Far
The total value of disproportionate assets uncovered across the 49 DA cases registered in 2025 stood at approximately ₹120 crore. Of these, 21 DA cases involved Class-I officers and 13 cases targeted Class-II officers, signalling that the probe is reaching into senior bureaucratic ranks.
What Comes Next
The outcome of Monday's searches — including any seizures of documents, cash, or property records — is expected to determine whether formal charges are filed against Kispatta. Given the agency's track record in 2025, an arrest could follow if the searches yield material evidence of assets disproportionate to his income.
