Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (NationPress) Odisha is set to officially launch the Odisha Inland Vessel Rules, 2025 and establish significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent organizations during the upcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025. This initiative aims to enhance inland water transport, develop infrastructure, and promote tourism.
The India Maritime Week 2025 is scheduled to take place in Mumbai from October 27 to 31. According to an official press release issued on Tuesday, the state will introduce the Odisha Inland Vessel Rules to strengthen regulatory frameworks for inland water transport.
Additionally, the state government will present a White Paper on the Odisha Maritime Perspective Plan (OMPP), detailing a comprehensive vision for the long-term integrated maritime development in Odisha.
The government will also finalize strategic MoUs with the Indian Ports Association (IPA), Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Ltd. (IPRCL), and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to bolster infrastructure and stimulate tourism.
The Odisha Maritime Board (OMB), during its 6th Board Meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, reiterated Odisha’s dedication to reclaiming its maritime heritage and establishing itself as a leading coastal economy.
Chief Secretary Ahuja highlighted, “With its rich maritime history and a coastline of 480 kilometers, Odisha is strategically poised to emerge as a national and global maritime leader.”
He stressed the necessity for sustainable, technology-driven strategies to foster inclusive growth and restore the state’s historical significance in maritime commerce. As Odisha prepares to join as a State Partner at IMW 2025, the Board evaluated crucial initiatives and finalized a holistic roadmap to establish the state as a center for sustainable maritime progress.
Odisha will also highlight its role as a significant contributor to green hydrogen production and export during the IMW. Key areas of emphasis will include shipbuilding, ship repair, recycling, development of captive jetties, and port-led industrial growth, along with initiatives aimed at creating a future-ready workforce for the maritime industry.
A Coffee Table Book that celebrates Odisha’s maritime evolution from the historical naval strength of ancient Kalinga to its contemporary maritime aspirations will be launched at this national event in Mumbai.
