Srinagar, March 1 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, convened a meeting on Saturday to assess the preparations for Ramzan, which is set to begin on Sunday.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted that the public rightfully anticipates their elected officials to implement all essential measures to guarantee that they encounter no inconveniences throughout this holy month.

CM Abdullah stated: "With the onset of the holy month of Ramzan tomorrow, citizens expect the government to take all necessary steps to ensure they don’t experience any challenges."

He underscored the importance of key departments under strain to provide essential services, particularly power supply, which must be prioritized.

"Citizens want, and we must endeavor, to ensure there are no power outages during Sehri and Iftar times. Any required shutdowns should be well-organized, and curtailment should be scheduled during daylight hours. Maintenance work should also occur during the day," CM Abdullah instructed.

He urged officials to promptly resolve system issues or faulty distribution transformers (DTs) to prevent disruptions.

Regarding water supply, CM Abdullah noted that the recent snowfall and rain had positively impacted the situation but emphasized the necessity of providing sufficient potable water to households.

"Thanks to Allah, the recent rainfall over the last few days has been advantageous in this regard," he remarked.

The Chief Minister also ordered officials to prioritize cleanliness, especially around mosques and shrines, as well as to manage traffic and establish security provisions.

To improve public service delivery, he instructed all Deputy Commissioners to establish fully staffed and functional district control rooms to address grievances swiftly.

"Our joint effort should be to ensure a seamless and trouble-free Ramzan for the community. It is our duty to implement all necessary arrangements," he asserted.

The meeting included participation from Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Education Shantamanu, Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, all Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, Inspector General of Police Kashmir and Jammu, Deputy Commissioners, Commissioner JMC, MDs of KPDCL/JPDCL, and heads of key departments and Joint Director SMC.

The meeting was held both in person and via virtual means.

Previously, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Bidhuri, provided an extensive report on the arrangements for the holy month.

The meeting discussed electricity demand during peak hours, particularly at Sehri and Iftar, water supply, sanitation around religious and significant public locations, ration distribution for March, traffic deployment strategies, police security measures, food safety, and joint market inspections.
