Ahmedabad, Dec 2 (NationPress) A splendid ceremony took place in Ahmedabad to honour esteemed Parsi religious leaders, graced by the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This event highlighted the community's cherished legacy of service and its pivotal role in propelling India forward.

During his address, the Chief Minister articulated that the Parsi community has rendered “immense and invaluable contributions to nation-building,” emphasizing that generosity is the community’s defining characteristic. He praised their unwavering spirit of service, commitment, and social responsibility.

The event was coordinated by the Ariz Khambatta Benevolent Trust (AKBT). Founder Trustee Piruz Khambatta remarked that the initiative embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of 'Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi (development alongside heritage preservation).'

The AKBT, renowned for its extensive work in health, education, and social welfare, also extends support to individuals living with HIV. On this occasion, the trust unveiled a new scholarship aimed at encouraging young Parsis pursuing religious studies.

The Chief Minister reminisced about the remarkable contributions of iconic Parsi personalities such as Madam Bhikhaiji Cama, Homi Bhabha, the Tata, Wadia, and Godrej families, along with Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw—individuals who have had a profound impact on India’s development.

He pointed out that the community’s ancestors embraced the ethos of the Bhagavad Gita’s 'Swadharma', integrating seamlessly into Gujarat’s societal fabric “like sugar in milk.”

The two-day celebration encompasses various cultural programmes, including theatre, music, and comedy, designed to connect the younger generation with their rich traditions.

The ceremony attracted a significant gathering of Parsi leaders, high priests, and representatives from community organisations nationwide.

Despite being a small community, the Parsi population in India has exerted considerable influence on the nation’s social, economic, and cultural landscape.

As descendants of Zoroastrians who migrated from Persia over a millennium ago, Parsis have established some of India’s most iconic institutions, from the Tata and Godrej business houses to pioneering advancements in science by Homi Bhabha and in defence by Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

Renowned for their philanthropy, integrity, and dedication to public service, Parsis have played a vital role in shaping modern India through industry, education, healthcare, and civic leadership.

Their unique combination of tradition, progressive values, and generosity has earned them profound respect, making them an integral part of India’s development narrative despite their small numbers.
