Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The passenger vehicle sector in India experienced remarkable year-on-year growth in both wholesale and retail sales during November 2025, fueled by consistent post-festive demand, recent GST rate reductions, and the winter wedding season, according to a report released on Thursday.
The analysis by ICRA Analytics indicated that retail sales jumped by 22 percent year-on-year in November, although there was a 29 percent decline from the peak levels observed in October's festive season.
Wholesale figures increased by 19 percent YoY, amounting to 4.1 lakh units, as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) continued production to satisfy ongoing demand.
ICRA's forecast for FY26 predicts wholesale volume growth between 1 to 4 percent, bolstered by stable demand, GST cuts, new model releases, and ongoing market momentum.
For the first eight months of FY2026, wholesale growth was a modest 3.6 percent YoY, compared to a more robust 6.1 percent for retail, as mentioned in the report.
Inventory levels saw improvement, reducing to 44–46 days by November 2025, down from 60 days at the end of September, as per data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association, aided by enhanced retail off-take.
Utility vehicles comprised 67 percent of passenger vehicle sales in November, a slight decrease from 69 percent in October, while mini, compact, and super-compact segments rebounded following the GST adjustments.
Additionally, the report highlighted that three-wheeler sales increased by 21.3 percent to 71,999 units, and two-wheeler sales surged by 21.2 percent to 19,44,475 units during November.
Continued supportive policy reforms and improved market conditions are expected to propel this growth trend into 2026.
Scooter sales saw a significant rise of 29.4 percent, totaling 7,35,753 units, reflecting strong urban demand. Motorcycle sales grew by 17.5 percent to 11,63,751 units, driven by steady purchases from rural and semi-urban areas. Sales of three-wheelers climbed by 24.6 percent to 59,446 units in November, primarily fueled by passenger carriers.
Goods carriers also experienced growth of 10.9 percent, reaching 10,874 units, according to the data. Meanwhile, India's passenger vehicle exports were supported by robust global demand, particularly from markets in the Middle East and Latin America.
