Gujarat CM Patel returns from US-Canada tour, eyes big investment for Vibrant Gujarat 2027
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel returned to Ahmedabad on Thursday, 27 August after a nine-day official visit to the United States and Canada, saying companies in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, and manufacturing had shown strong interest in investing in the state. The tour, spanning 17 to 26 August, was aimed at attracting global capital and building momentum for the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit scheduled for 10 to 12 January 2027.
Cities Covered and Delegation Composition
The delegation, led by Chief Minister Patel and Chief Secretary M.K. Das, held engagements across San Francisco, Washington, DC, New York, and Toronto. Senior officials accompanying the team included Additional Chief Secretary of Finance T. Natarajan, Additional Chief Secretary of Industries and Mines Mamta Verma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjeev Kumar, and Additional Principal Secretary Dr Vikrant Pandey. Representatives from Gujarat's industrial and business community also travelled with the delegation.
Key Sectors and Investment Discussions
Meetings were held with major companies and investors operating in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, and manufacturing. Financial sector firms were also engaged in connection with GIFT City, Gujarat's flagship international financial services hub. The discussions focused on investment opportunities, technology partnerships, and collaboration in emerging industrial sectors.
Patel credited the trust that global investors place in Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a key driver of the positive response. 'We have witnessed the impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's global relationships and the trust he enjoys during this visit. Because of the complete trust people have in the Prime Minister, investors are keen to make greater investments across various sectors,' he told reporters after landing in Ahmedabad.
Gujarati Diaspora Outreach
Beyond corporate boardrooms, the delegation engaged with members of the Gujarati diaspora across all four cities. In Canada, Patel met entrepreneurs and business representatives, personally inviting the community to invest in Gujarat and participate in the 2027 Vibrant Gujarat Summit. This diaspora engagement has been a consistent feature of Gujarat's investor outreach strategy across previous summits.
Homecoming and What Comes Next
Patel was received at Ahmedabad airport by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and senior state government officials on his return. The Chief Minister said the state's objective was to ensure that a larger share of investment flowing into India was directed towards Gujarat. With the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit less than five months away, the government is expected to announce confirmed investment commitments and sector-specific partnerships in the weeks ahead.
