Patna, Jan 14 (NationPress) What initially seemed like a mysterious murder of a woman in Gajawak Mohammadpur under the jurisdiction of Janipur police station in Patna has been solved, with the victim’s husband allegedly identified as the main conspirator, according to police reports released on Wednesday.

The victim has been named as Mala Devi, the spouse of Subodh Sharma, who resides in the Pali police station area of Jehanabad.

Mala was discovered murdered on January 11, prompting the police to initiate an investigation.

“Initially, it was a blind case. We utilized technical and scientific methods to resolve the case within 48 hours,” stated City Superintendent of Police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh in a media briefing.

The investigation uncovered that Mala Devi allegedly maintained personal relationships with other individuals and was involved in financial dealings, leading to tensions between the couple.

This discord reportedly motivated Subodh Sharma to orchestrate the murder.

“Subodh Sharma enlisted the help of an old acquaintance, Kunal Kishore, a former hotel employee, to carry out the plan. An upfront payment of Rs 2.50 lakh was made, with a promise of additional compensation later,” Singh explained.

“On January 11, Mala Devi was taken to Gajawak Mohammadpur under the pretense of viewing a piece of land. She was subsequently led to a secluded area where she was shot by the assailants. Following the incident, both suspects fled the scene,” he mentioned.

During the investigation, the police examined mobile call records, location data, and interpersonal connections, which facilitated crucial breakthroughs.

Kunal Kishore was apprehended first at Jehanabad railway station, and the mobile device used in the crime was recovered based on his information.

Later, based on insights gathered during questioning, the victim’s husband Subodh Sharma was also arrested.

Both suspects are currently undergoing further questioning, as per police reports.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established under the guidance of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Phulwarisharif, to crack the case.

Authorities indicated that ongoing investigations aim to uncover the entire network, recover the murder weapon, and identify any additional accomplices.

“Further investigations are ongoing to trace the entire network, recover the weapon used, and determine the involvement of any other accomplices,” Singh added.
