New Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) Ferdinand R. This marks his inaugural visit to India since taking office.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday that President Marcos will be accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a distinguished delegation that includes several Cabinet Ministers, senior officials, dignitaries, and representatives from the business sector. In addition to engagements in New Delhi, the President will also make a stop in Bengaluru before concluding his trip.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Marcos are slated to engage in bilateral discussions on August 5. The visiting leader will also have a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is expected to call on him as well.
According to the MEA, diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines were established in November 1949. Since then, both nations have forged a robust partnership in various fields, including trade and investment, defence, maritime cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and digital technologies. Both countries also work closely at the regional level, particularly through India’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN.
"India's ties with the Philippines are a vital component of our 'Act East' Policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and our strategy for the Indo-Pacific. The upcoming State Visit of President Marcos aligns with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines," the MEA stated.
Indian naval vessels have frequently visited the Philippines as part of their defence collaboration, with India offering its ports for ship maintenance.
On July 30, Indian naval ships, INS Mysore, INS Kiltan, and INS Shakti, received a warm reception from the Philippine Navy during their port call to the Southeast Asian nation.
In his address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore last year, President Marcos Jr. expressed that the Philippines "will seek to enhance collaboration with allies like India".
Describing the visit as a pivotal moment, the MEA emphasized that it presents a chance for both nations to outline future cooperation and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.
