New Delhi, Dec 31 (NationPress) The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit has refuted claims that AI-generated images were utilized to win the National Water Awards. In a statement, PIB Fact Check clarified that allegations on social media suggested that AI-generated images, invitation cards, and minor pits were misrepresented as extensive water reservoirs to secure awards under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan–Jan Bhagidari (JSJB).
“These assertions are false,” the unit stated.
Elaborating on the evaluation procedures, PIB asserted that the awards in the ‘Water Conservation – Public Participation’ category are evaluated strictly based on submissions available on the JSJB dashboard.
They emphasized that each recharge structure is monitored utilizing GIS coordinates, geo-tagged photos, and financial documentation.
Moreover, the PIB mentioned that entries from districts are subjected to multi-tier scrutiny by district officials as well as the Ministry of Jal Shakti, with at least one percent of the projects being independently validated on-site to ensure quality and authenticity.
The Fact Check unit clarified that the Catch the Rain (CTR) portal operates as a distinct platform, and images uploaded there are not factored into the awards evaluation.
Citizens were advised to depend solely on official channels for reliable information, as misinformation could lead to unnecessary confusion.
The government further stated that some social media posts alleged that the National Water Awards were obtained by submitting AI-generated or duplicate images, or by depicting small pits as large water bodies. Additionally, some posts shared screenshots and old, unrelated images from the CTR portal, suggesting manipulation in the awards process.
“These claims are factually incorrect and misleading. The evaluation for the JSJB Awards is conducted exclusively on the basis of entries accessible on the JSJB dashboard,” the statement affirmed.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti also firmly rejected accusations of image manipulation or misuse, cautioning that such misinformation misleads the public, disheartens field officers and community volunteers, and jeopardizes a crucial national initiative aimed at bolstering India’s water security.
The ministry reiterated its dedication to transparency and accountability, rigorous verification of projects, and corrective measures wherever irregularities are identified.
