New Delhi, July 27 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his pride on Sunday regarding the remarkable accomplishments of Indians in space, science, sports, and culture.
During the 124th episode of his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi highlighted the achievements of Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, whose recent space mission has evoked a wave of joy and national pride throughout the nation.
“In the past few weeks, many events have made every Indian feel proud—whether it’s in sports, science, or culture. The return of Shubhanshu Shukla from space has been a hot topic in our country. When Shubhanshu landed safely back on Earth, joy erupted everywhere, and a wave of happiness engulfed the nation,” PM Modi stated.
He reminisced about the excitement and curiosity that followed the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon in August 2023, remarking on how it ignited a profound interest in science and space among children. “I still recall the moment Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon... Young kids are now saying, ‘We will also go to space, we will also land on the moon and become space scientists.’”
The Prime Minister also underscored the expanding reach of the Inspire-Manak campaign, which aims to foster innovation among schoolchildren. “Five children from every school are chosen for their new ideas. So far, millions of children have participated in this initiative, and following the success of Chandrayaan-3, this number has doubled,” he remarked.
PM Modi further emphasized the swift growth of space-related startups in India, noting that their count has surged from fewer than 50 five years ago to over 200 today.
In this context, he declared that August 23 will be commemorated as 'National Space Day' and encouraged citizens to share their ideas for celebrating this occasion.
Highlighting the renewed vigor with which Indian science is advancing in the 21st century, he proudly acknowledged Indian students who won medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad. “Devesh Pankaj, Sandeep Kuchi, Debadatta Priyadarshi, and Ujjawal Kesari—these four have made India proud,” he said.
He also recognized India's success in mathematics, noting the impressive performance of students at the International Mathematical Olympiad, where they secured three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.
Looking to the future, PM Modi announced that India will host the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in Mumbai next month, featuring participants from 60 countries. He remarked that this will be the largest Olympiad of its kind held to date, stating, “In a way, India is now advancing in both Olympiad and Olympic arenas.”
