New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on his recent re-election. In his message, PM Modi expressed eagerness to collaborate more closely with Store to enhance the partnership between the two nations.
"Congratulations to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on his re-election. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation to further strengthen the India-Norway partnership across all sectors," PM Modi stated in a post on X.
This message follows the victory of Norway's Labour Party, led by Store, in the General Election held on Monday. Despite a rise in support for the anti-immigration Progress Party, the centre-left coalition emerged triumphant.
The five-party left-wing alliance secured a slim majority by winning 87 out of 169 seats, while the centre-right coalition, led by the Progress Party and Conservatives, held 82 seats.
Store expressed gratitude to his supporters, noting that their victory demonstrated that social democratic parties can still win elections in Europe, according to Euro News.
Last year, PM Modi met with Store during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where they reviewed the advancements in bilateral relations and discussed avenues for enhancing cooperation.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office highlighted the signing of the India-European Free Trade Association-Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (India-EFTA-TEPA) as a significant milestone in their relations, emphasizing its importance in attracting increased investments into India from EFTA countries, including Norway.
Both leaders also deliberated on regional and international matters of shared interest, with discussions centered on boosting cooperation in areas such as blue economy, renewable energy, green hydrogen, solar and wind initiatives, geothermal energy, green shipping, Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS), fisheries, space exploration, and Arctic issues.
