Raipur, Nov 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the splendid new Chhattisgarh Assembly building in Nava Raipur with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, celebrating the state’s 25th foundation day that beautifully intertwines cultural pride with modern governance.
During the event, he unveiled a life-size statue of the esteemed former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and planted a sapling as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, emphasizing the commitment to the environment.
Joined by Governor Raman Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh, PM Modi praised the complex as a representation of Chhattisgarh’s evolution since its inception in 2000.
“This Vidhan Sabha is more than just a structure; it embodies the essence of democracy, deeply rooted in tradition while reaching towards innovation,” he stated to an audience of legislators, tribal artists, and citizens.
Covering 51 acres in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, the Rs 324-crore complex replaces earlier temporary venues—a private school and government offices.
Designed with the theme “Dharti Dhurandhar,” it beautifully integrates Chhattisgarhi heritage with advanced sustainability features. The assembly hall, which accommodates 200 seats (expandable after delimitation), showcases a ceiling intricately carved with rice grains and leaves, paying homage to the state’s identity as the “Rice Bowl”.
Doors and walls adorned with tribal motifs celebrate the art and craftsmanship of Bastar. From inception to completion, the complex is eco-friendly, equipped with solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and green spaces.
The building consists of three blocks, a 500-seat auditorium, parking capacity for 850 vehicles, and integrated facilities—including allopathic, homoeopathic, and Ayurvedic hospitals, bank, post office, and canteen—ensuring public needs are met on the lower ground floor.
“This is a people’s Vidhan Sabha, characterized by openness, transparency, and inclusivity,” remarked Chief Minister Sai.
The ceremony, commemorating Chhattisgarh’s silver jubilee, resonated with Vajpayee’s legacy—having carved the state from Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi honored his predecessor.
“Atal ji’s vision gave Chhattisgarh its identity; today, this building carries forward his dream,” he noted.
The unveiling of the bronze statue, positioned amidst beautifully landscaped gardens, was met with applause as schoolchildren waved tricolors.
This event coincided with earlier inaugurations of Rs 14,260 crore in road, health, and energy projects, along with an emotional interaction with 2,500 children who were treated for heart defects.
As the tricolour was unfurled atop the dome, Chhattisgarh embraced its next quarter-century with a legislative beacon that blends heritage, democracy, and sustainability.
