New Delhi, Sep 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday to initiate a range of infrastructure and development projects, including the ceremonial laying of foundation stones for various initiatives in Itanagar, amounting to over Rs 5,100 crore. This includes two significant hydropower projects.

After his activities in Arunachal Pradesh, PM Modi will proceed to Tripura to inaugurate development efforts at the renowned Mata Tripura Sundari Temple complex in Udaipur. While the visit will incorporate religious rituals, no public speech is anticipated. The 45-minute event will emphasize the temple's cultural and spiritual importance.

The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala before taking a helicopter to Palatana. From there, he will travel by road to the temple.

A senior official revealed that the Prime Minister will virtually lay the foundation stones for two major hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 426 MW. These initiatives are set to be commissioned by the state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).

The projects include the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), both developed by NEEPCO, a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited.

According to the official, these two power initiatives, with an estimated cost exceeding Rs 3,700 crore, are being developed through a collaboration between NEEPCO and the Arunachal Pradesh government.

The Heo Hydro Electric Project (3x80 MW), situated in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district, is expected to generate around 1000 MUs annually. Meanwhile, the Tato-I Hydroelectric Project (3x62 MW) will yield approximately 803 MUs each year.

Both projects are anticipated to tap into the extensive hydroelectric potential of Arunachal Pradesh and advance sustainable energy production, resulting in significant socio-economic advantages for the region, the official stated.

He added that these initiatives are set to create new employment opportunities, driving the state towards growth and progress, thus shaping a brighter future for its inhabitants.

Collectively, the Heo and Tato-I projects will make a substantial contribution to India's clean energy goals, while also revolutionizing the energy and development landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, enhancing the power sector nationwide with the vision of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’, the official noted.

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has been integral to power generation in India’s Northeast since its establishment in 1976. Aiming to harness the region’s vast hydro potential, NEEPCO has developed into a Mini Ratna Category-I Public Sector Enterprise.
