New Delhi, Aug 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from August 7 to 9.
The conference, themed “Evergreen Revolution - The Pathway to Bio Happiness”, aims to honor Prof. Swaminathan’s enduring contributions toward sustainable and equitable development.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister will also unveil a commemorative coin and stamp issued by the Government of India to honor the esteemed scientist.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), underscored Prof. Swaminathan’s crucial role in transforming India from a food-deficient country to a food-surplus nation.
“Prof. Swaminathan was a heroic figure in Indian agriculture whose visionary leadership reshaped the country’s agricultural landscape,” he remarked.
Dr. Jat further emphasized that the conference seeks to build upon Prof. Swaminathan’s legacy by creating a roadmap for the future of Indian agriculture, with a strong emphasis on increasing women's participation in the sector.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chair of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), highlighted the global relevance of the conference and its potential to influence the future of sustainable agriculture on a worldwide scale.
The conference will act as a global forum for scientists, policymakers, development professionals, and various stakeholders to discuss ways to further the principles of the ‘Evergreen Revolution’.
