As mentioned by the Prime Minister's Office, he will also address the attendees on this significant occasion.
This two-day conference, organized by NALSA, will focus on pivotal elements of the legal services framework, encompassing the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System, panel lawyers, para-legal volunteers, permanent Lok Adalats, and the fiscal management of legal services institutions.
Founded under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987, NALSA aims to provide free legal aid and ensure access to justice for marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Article 39A of the Indian Constitution, which is part of the Directive Principles of State Policy, addresses the promotion of justice and the provision of free legal aid.
Article 39A states that "the State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice, on a basis of equal opportunity, and shall, in particular, provide free legal aid, by suitable legislation or schemes or in any other manner, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities."
Currently, Justice Surya Kant, an apex court judge, serves as the Executive Chairman of NALSA.
The Chief Justice of India is the Patron-in-Chief of NALSA.
In each state, the State Legal Services Authority has been established to implement the policies and directives of NALSA and to provide free legal services and conduct Lok Adalats.
The State Legal Services Authority is overseen by the Chief Justice of the corresponding High Court, who acts as the Patron-in-Chief of the State Legal Services Authority.
The senior-most judge of the High Court is appointed as the Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority.
