Agartala, June 10 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha remarked on Tuesday that the northeastern part of India was previously regarded as a hub of terrorism, but thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, harmony has been reinstated in the area, enabling thousands of militants to reintegrate into society.
Reflecting on the eleven-year tenure of the NDA government under PM Modi, the Chief Minister noted that with Sikkim's inclusion in the North Eastern Council (NEC), the Prime Minister characterized the region as 'Ashtalakshmi'—representing eight forms of prosperity—and launched ambitious development projects across all sectors.
"Since Modi assumed the role of Prime Minister, he proclaimed that India's progress cannot be achieved without the development of the northeastern region. The growth of 'Ashtalakshmi' is one of his top priorities," CM Saha stated during a press conference.
He further disclosed that approximately 11 to 12 peace agreements have been executed by the government with various insurgent factions and organizations in the northeast, leading to a state of peace and stability.
CM Saha emphasized that PM Modi is constantly engaged in fostering development, innovation, and the inauguration of new projects and schemes.
The vision and plans of the Prime Minister primarily aim for the upliftment of the impoverished and the holistic growth of the nation, he added, mentioning a 'roadmap' for national development that is actively being implemented.
"The Modi-led government has successfully lifted 25 crore individuals out of poverty over the past eleven years. Every promise made by PM Modi has been fulfilled. His contributions and achievements will be etched in history in golden letters," the Chief Minister asserted.
Accompanied by BJP State President and Rajya Sabha member Rajib Bhattacharjee, he noted that the Modi government has fortified border security and significantly enhanced the nation's economy, extensively leveraging technology across all sectors to achieve desired outcomes.
CM Saha stated that the mantra of the Modi administration is "performance, accountability, and good governance," asserting that the government is reform-driven, responsive, and transforming all sectors while prioritizing public engagement.
Before 2014, the citizens of India were witnesses to terrorist incidents such as attacks on Parliament and Mumbai, along with rampant corruption and nepotism that were prevalent before Modi took office, he noted.
"With his extensive experience, PM Modi initiated the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which led to the introduction of the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana in Tripura, ensuring affordable medical treatment for all citizens," stated CM Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare department.
He concluded by saying that the past eleven years under the Modi government have established a solid foundation for a truly developed and self-reliant India.
Listing several bold decisions made by the Modi administration, such as abolishing triple talaq and passing the Citizenship Amendment Act, the Chief Minister highlighted that the International Monetary Fund has acknowledged India as the fourth largest economy globally, while the World Bank has recognized India's promising economic prospects.
He remarked that the World Bank has classified India's economy as the fastest-growing worldwide.
CM Saha, who previously served as the President of the BJP Tripura unit, asserted that PM Modi has introduced a culture of performance-driven politics in the nation.
He mentioned that a transformative change is evident in Jammu and Kashmir, citing the swift retaliatory measures following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, during which nine terrorist bases in Pakistan were dismantled within 25 minutes of 'Operation Sindoor' by Indian armed forces.
For the empowerment of women, a bill ensuring 33 percent reservation was passed in Parliament, along with initiatives aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of tribals, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes.
CM Saha, who also manages the Home department, stated that the Modi government has nearly eradicated Maoist activities across the country, with plans to eliminate the remaining activities in a matter of months.
The Chief Minister asserted that India has liberated itself from corruption and scams since the Modi-led government took power in 2014.
"Now, funds allocated for those in need are directly transferred into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through a direct benefit transfer scheme," he added.
