This was his third trip to the Indian Ocean nation and notably the first by a Head of State or Government during the presidency of Mohamed Muizzu, who took office in November 2023.
On Saturday, PM Modi participated in the Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives as a 'Guest of Honour' at the Republic Square in Male, where he was accompanied by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
