Gariaband, Dec 8 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is emerging as a true blessing for the rural communities in Chhattisgarh.
A significant transformation is evident in Sarkada village, situated in the Chhura block of Gariaband district. Many villagers have transitioned from mud huts to secure, permanent residences.
Local residents express that this initiative, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been life-altering for them.
Beneficiaries from Sarkada village shared that their previous homes were basic mud structures, akin to temporary shelters.
During the rainy season, water would infiltrate their roofs, and there was a persistent anxiety about snakes and scorpions.
Thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, they received ₹1,20,000 for constructing their houses, along with an extra ₹21,000 for labor assistance. This financial support has enabled them to create stable homes where they can live securely.
Expressing their joy to IANS, the villagers stated they now possess robust and safe homes.
Previously, they were burdened with fears of theft, snakes, scorpions, and the risk of their houses collapsing during heavy rainfall. Now, with their new homes built, they can concentrate on their daily activities without anxiety.
Village Sarpanch Kirti Lata Diwan mentioned that nearly all eligible families in the village are benefiting from PMAY.
She emphasized that the central government’s initiative has turned the aspirations of impoverished families into a reality. Many who once thought owning a proper home was impossible are now living happily and securely.
Another beneficiary expressed, “We once resided in a mud house. We never expected to have a concrete home. But thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, it has become a reality.”
The village’s Awas Mitra indicated that a total of 120 houses have been approved in Sarkada, of which 104 have been completed.
He explained that the government directly transfers ₹1,20,000 into the beneficiaries' bank accounts in three installments, ensuring transparency and timely completion of construction.
One resident noted that he contributed some of his personal savings to enhance his house's construction. He expressed immense happiness at having completed his permanent home.
“This was achievable because of PM Modi’s scheme. I am deeply grateful to him,” he said.
