Raebareli, Nov 19 (NationPress) A contentious poster war has emerged in the parliamentary constituency of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, following the display of posters by a leader from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday. The posters express gratitude towards the Congress MP for his role in the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) triumph in Bihar.

The sarcastic posters commend the LoP with phrases such as: “We extend our sincere thanks to Rahul Gandhi for his invaluable contribution towards the establishment of the NDA government in Bihar. His remarkable strategy, wisdom, and extraordinary foresight have made this achievement possible. Such motivational support is what we need daily.”

Recently, the NDA celebrated a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, winning over 200 out of 243 seats. Within the coalition, the BJP secured 89 seats while the Janata Dal (United) obtained 85. The NDA's total vote share reached 46.7 percent, contrasting with the Opposition alliance's 37.5 percent.

The Congress party faced a significant setback in the Bihar Assembly elections, managing to win only six seats. A notable aspect of the RJD–INC campaign was LoP Gandhi's 'Vote Chori' narrative, with his extensive travels aimed at influencing 116 Assembly seats.

The aggressive campaign of the INDIA Bloc, known locally as the Mahagathbandhan, revolved around the Congress MP's 'vote chori' allegations. Unfortunately, the strategy did not resonate well with the electorate, as trends indicated an unprecedented NDA victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

For the Congress, the emerging trends are particularly concerning. Not only did the party underperform in the seats it contested, but it also failed to make a substantial contribution to the alliance's overall tally.

Despite consistently raising allegations of 'voter chori' against the Centre and the Election Commission, in addition to campaigning around the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive and the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', the Congress struggled to gain significant traction.

In his last press conference regarding ‘Vote Chori’ on November 6, Rahul Gandhi claimed to have evidence of a Brazilian model appearing on the Haryana voter list 22 times under various aliases, including Seema and Sweety.

LoP Gandhi’s 'vote chori' narrative, coupled with the Congress’ energetic social media campaign intended to galvanize supporters and consolidate anti-incumbency sentiments, failed to generate the momentum the party had anticipated.

Despite promising a 'hydrogen bomb' of evidence, Rahul Gandhi did not fully deliver. He conducted three press conferences presenting alleged proofs of how the Election Commission of India (ECI) was facilitating vote theft, mass deletions, and data manipulation.

On November 6, LoP Gandhi reiterated his “vote chori” claims while appealing to what he termed “Gen Z brothers and sisters” to shape Bihar’s future. Yet, this tactic also failed to resonate with voters.

In the 2020 elections, Congress secured 27 seats out of 70, achieving a conversion rate of 38 percent. However, this time, its performance has deteriorated further.

Once a dominant force in Bihar’s political landscape, the Congress has steadily lost its foothold. In 2025, it contested as a junior partner within the alliance alongside the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The results of the 2025 Bihar elections signify one of the party’s weakest performances.

The Congress was previously among the top three political parties in Bihar, especially prior to the state’s bifurcation in 2000. In the 1985 elections, it won a clear majority with 196 seats, leading to Chandrashekhar Singh becoming Chief Minister.

In the 1990 elections, Congress emerged as the second-largest party with 71 seats, marking its last strong performance. The party's final phase of significant leadership occurred under Jagannath Mishra, who served as Chief Minister in 1990.

However, the party's influence rapidly declined thereafter. In the 1995 elections, its tally fell sharply to 29 seats, marking the onset of a long-term decline.

In 2000, Bihar was bifurcated, leading to the creation of the new state of Jharkhand. This transformation significantly altered Bihar’s political scene, paving the way for regional parties like the Janata Dal (United) and the RJD. In the 2000 Assembly elections, held before bifurcation, the Congress finished fourth, securing only 23 seats.
