Did Pralhad Joshi Just Slam the Karnataka Government Over Civic Site Allotments?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Union Minister for Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has expressed strong criticism towards the Karnataka government regarding the alleged allocation of civic amenity (CA) sites, which are intended for public infrastructure, to offices of the Congress party. He raised concerns about whether such lands are considered the "ancestral property" of the Congress.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Joshi accused the government of allotting over 24 civic amenity sites at discounted rates for the establishment of Congress offices. He labeled this action as inappropriate and claimed that the Congress-led state government is misusing public resources.
According to him, the land, valued in crores of rupees and designated for community purposes such as parks, libraries, and hospitals, has instead been diverted for the construction of "Congress Bhavans", which he characterized as a significant betrayal of public trust.
Moreover, Joshi pointed out the contradiction in the government's narrative, which claims a shortage of land for housing the poor while simultaneously allocating public land for political party offices.
He accused the Congress of treating public assets as their own and urged for a review of these allotments. Joshi called for the revocation of these alleged allocations and warned that the BJP would initiate protests if no corrective measures were implemented.
The Karnataka BJP has alleged that the state government has allocated 31 plots intended for civic use for political purposes, asserting that this constitutes a misuse of public land. They have provided documents to support their claims and are demanding the cancellation of these allotments.
Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy also condemned the decision, stating that public land should not be allocated for political party offices at any administrative level, including taluk and district levels.
The Karnataka government has yet to issue an official response to these allegations.
