New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the Congress Lok Sabha MP representing Ludhiana, has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assistance in tackling the rampant extortion and deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab.
While addressing the lower house, Warring expressed that there exists a prevailing atmosphere of fear throughout Punjab. He stated, “Individuals, particularly those in business, are receiving threatening calls from both overseas and from correctional facilities, demanding ransom.”
“Those who fail to comply with these demands face dire consequences, including murder. A recent incident in Ludhiana involved a shooting during a wedding ceremony around 1:30 p.m., where rival gangs exchanged gunfire, endangering two guests,” he elaborated.
The Congress MP criticized the Shiromani Akali Dal for endorsing a gangster as a candidate, thereby facilitating a free rein for criminals in politics.
“Gangsters are now directly contacting village heads and intimidating them to secure votes. The scenario has escalated to such an extent that gangsters are threatening politicians and bureaucrats as well,” he pointed out.
Warring also condemned a recent decision by the authorities to confine a known gangster in a different state, thereby limiting the ability to transfer him for legal proceedings.
“Punjab is in turmoil, while the authorities appear powerless,” he remarked.
“In light of these developments, the state government and police have remained mere spectators. Therefore, I urge the Home Minister to take notice of this critical situation and act to save Punjab,” he appealed.
The murder of the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022 stands as one of the most notable crimes indicative of the escalating gang activities in Punjab, shedding light on the operations of the Lawrence Bishnoi-Gold Brar syndicate.
In November 2024, Anmol Bishnoi, an international gangster and sibling of the imprisoned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was apprehended in California for entering the country with fraudulent documents and was subsequently returned to India.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which interrogated Anmol, identified him as a significant figure within the BKI-Bishnoi gangster syndicate, actively participating in its operations. His suspected connections to Khalistani movements, along with his involvement in a wider criminal network, remain under scrutiny.
Anmol faces numerous criminal cases, including allegations related to the conspiracy behind the assassination of Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra Minister and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, who was shot dead in Mumbai last October.
Previously, Congress MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa claimed that incarcerated gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya threatened to kill his son. It was reported that his son was shot at shortly after this threat in Punjab.
