New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, stated on Sunday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to assess the security landscape in the region is vital due to Pakistan's continuous efforts to disturb peace over the past few months.
Amit Shah's trip to the Union Territory occurs against a backdrop of increasing incidents of ceasefire breaches and terror activities originating from the Pakistani side.
Sunil Sharma highlighted the importance of this visit, stressing how it will bolster the readiness of security forces.
In an interview with IANS, Sharma noted, “Union Home Minister frequently visits J&K to review the security conditions. This visit carries added significance as, for the last year, Pakistan has been employing new strategies and modules to disrupt tranquility in border regions.”
His remarks resonate with the amplified security worries in J&K, especially in light of the escalating cross-border tensions.
During his visit, Amit Shah is anticipated to meet with the families of police personnel who recently lost their lives in encounters with terrorists.
Moreover, he will assess the security status at a forward post along the India-Pakistan border. Shah's itinerary will also involve a review of various developmental initiatives in the area, underscoring the government's dedication to both security and progress in the region.
On April 8, Shah will first evaluate numerous development programs in the Union Territory (UT) during a meeting scheduled at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar. Following this, he will convene another meeting at the Raj Bhavan to review the security situation in the UT.
He will also visit the family of Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat in Srinagar. The officer was killed on September 13, 2023, while engaging terrorists in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district. The Home Minister will review various developmental projects during his stay in Srinagar.
He expressed confidence that the situation in Jammu would soon normalize as security forces are actively working. He also reiterated that the stance on statehood is clear, and it would be restored at the appropriate moment.
This marks Amit Shah's first visit to J&K following the establishment of an elected government in October of the previous year.
