Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, showcased a detailed report on the state's law and order situation under the AAP administration during the ongoing series ‘Shandaar Chaar Saal Bhagwant Mann De Naal’. This initiative is designed to provide the public with a transparent, sector-wise overview of four years of governance.
He emphasized that the visible improvements in law and order are a result of a stringent zero-tolerance approach toward drugs, an extensive crackdown on organized crime, ongoing police reforms, and increased investor confidence.
CM Mann highlighted the success of the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, which has led to remarkable outcomes: over 95,000 smugglers apprehended, illegal assets worth Rs 772 crore seized, and more than 1,100 gangs dismantled. Additionally, the introduction of an anti-drone system has significantly curtailed cross-border smuggling.
The Chief Minister pointed out that record police recruitment and modernization efforts, along with initiatives such as the Sadak Surakhya Force, have reinforced law enforcement capabilities in Punjab.
In a critical stance against the Akali leadership, he stated that those who previously supported gangsters and allowed criminal enterprises to grow are now attempting to distort history, yet they cannot evade accountability.
“The Punjab government has firmly embraced a zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offenses. No leniency will be afforded to lawbreakers, and we will ensure exemplary punishment,” asserted CM Mann.
“Since March 2022, we have arrested 95,881 drug smugglers and suppliers and filed 71,228 FIRs under the NDPS Act,” he continued.
Expounding on the crackdown, the Chief Minister detailed that 6,109 significant drug consignments have been seized, along with the apprehension of 10,085 major traffickers. Special efforts have been directed towards drug hotspots, leading to the recovery of 5,625 kg of heroin, 3,461 kg of opium, 1,628 quintals of poppy husk, and 4.96 crore injections, tablets, capsules, and syrups.
Addressing organized crime, CM Mann reported that since the establishment of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), they have arrested 2,858 gangsters, neutralized 35, and dismantled 1,105 gangs. Furthermore, 2,267 weapons and 655 vehicles used in criminal activities have been recovered.
