Chandigarh, April 9 (NationPress) Punjab's Minister for Industries and Commerce, Sanjeev Arora, proclaimed on Wednesday the upcoming construction of a cutting-edge Multipurpose Exhibition and Convention Centre in Mohali, located in close proximity to Chandigarh.
“This significant endeavor illustrates the government's dedication to establishing Punjab as a prime locale for international events and investments,” stated Arora.
He elaborated that the Convention Centre will be built on approximately 14 acres in the core of Mohali IT City through a Public-Private Partnership framework, with a projected budget of around Rs 250 crore. The concession period for this project will span 15 years.
The initiative aims to create a state-of-the-art facility capable of hosting extensive national and international gatherings, equipped with world-class infrastructure and amenities.
The development will unfold in two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by December 31 and the second phase by December 31, 2027.
Regarding the infrastructure details, the minister highlighted that the centre will comprise expansive, column-free exhibition halls, including two principal halls of roughly 40,000 sq. ft and 15,000 sq. ft, alongside conference rooms, breakout areas, as well as retail and dining zones covering about 15,000 sq. ft, and parking facilities accommodating at least 1,000 vehicles.
The establishment will also feature beautifully landscaped public areas and open spaces for events.
Stressing on modern design principles and sustainability, Arora mentioned that the centre will utilize advanced column-free structural systems, strategic traffic circulation, and logistical planning, alongside modern mechanical, electrical, plumbing, audio-visual, and information technology systems, ensuring adherence to the National Building Code, fire safety, accessibility standards, and the adoption of GRIHA 5-Star sustainable design principles.
“This Convention and Exhibition Centre represents a transformative project for Punjab. It will greatly increase our capability to host global events, draw investments, and create substantial employment opportunities.
With Mohali rapidly emerging as a modern urban and technological hub, this world-class infrastructure will further propel its development,” the minister concluded.
