Patna, Jan 30 (NationPress) A tragic collision between a bus and a truck on National Highway 31 in Bihar's Purnea district resulted in the loss of two lives and left more than a dozen passengers injured on Thursday.

The incident took place between Hijla and Dighi bridge within the jurisdiction of Baisi police station when a bus, which was en route from Patna to Kishanganj, collided head-on with a truck that was speeding and loaded with bamboo.

The force of the impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles. Emergency services quickly arrived at the location, and all injured individuals were promptly transported to Baisi Health Centre for initial treatment before being referred to Purnea’s Government Medical College and Hospital for further care.

Authorities are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the crash, while local law enforcement is working diligently to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic on the highway.

Witnesses reported that the accident may have been exacerbated by ongoing bridge construction, which has turned the road section into a one-way route, resulting in frequent accidents.

Additionally, police indicated that heavy fog and poor visibility during the early morning hours significantly contributed to the head-on collision.

In the aftermath of the accident, a significant traffic jam ensued on National Highway 31, which was later resolved by the Baisi Police Administration, restoring standard traffic flow.

According to the Officer-in-Charge of Baisi police station, “The passengers seated at the front of the bus were the ones who tragically lost their lives. We have retrieved the bodies trapped inside the bus, which have been sent for post-mortem at GMCH Purnea. The injured individuals are also receiving treatment at the same hospital.”

“An FIR has been filed regarding this incident, and further investigations are underway,” he added.
