New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha continued his initiative to advocate for gig workers on Monday by sharing a video on social media that illustrates his experience of a day in their life on the bustling streets of the national capital.
Clad in the jacket of a quick-commerce service and riding pillion with a young gig worker on a scooter, the 37-year-old MP is seen traversing the city with the driver and using an elevator to deliver to a customer's doorstep.
He posted his self-recorded video online, highlighting his role as a Co-Delivery partner, stating, “Away from boardrooms, at the grassroots. I lived their day. Stay tuned!”
On January 4, Chadha, who is a qualified Chartered Accountant and previously worked with global accounting firms, utilized social media to announce the release of draft social security regulations for gig workers.
“Congratulations to all Gig Workers and Delivery Partners. There is good news for you. The Central Government’s draft Social Security Rules mark a significant step towards acknowledging, protecting, and dignifying your work. Despite the Platforms...choosing to ignore your voices, the nation and its government have listened. This is a small win but an essential one,” he shared.
On New Year’s Eve, Chadha showed his strong support for gig workers nationwide, who participated in a symbolic strike advocating for fair wages, improved working conditions, and social security from major delivery and e-commerce platforms.
Chadha spent New Year’s Eve engaging with protesting gig workers at Old Rajinder Nagar in Delhi, where delivery partners from various companies assembled to make their demands known.
He described the protest as peaceful and focused solely on drawing attention to the challenges faced by gig workers, who are vital to India’s urban workforce and economy.
“I spent New Year’s Eve with Gig Workers at Old Rajinder Nagar, where they held a symbolic strike to ensure their voices were heard,” Chadha posted on X, along with photos from the event.
He characterized the workers’ demands as “valid and rightful” and expressed his support for their calls for fair wages, respect in the workplace, and social security.
The nationwide strike, organized collaboratively by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) and the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT), saw thousands of delivery personnel across various states log off their apps or significantly reduce their work hours.
This protest disrupted services on one of the busiest commercial days of the year, with reports of delays and cancellations in multiple cities.
