What Are the Reasons Behind Rahul Gandhi’s Questionable Foreign Engagements? - BJP
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed on Wednesday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi frequently travels abroad to engage with individuals and groups that exhibit an “anti-India mindset”. Upon his return, he reportedly escalates his criticism of the Central government. The BJP raised questions regarding the nature of his international engagements, the origins of his invitations, and the recurring political controversies linked to his trips abroad.
BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi expressed concern over the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition’s foreign visits, including his recent trips and upcoming engagements in Germany. He noted that “reports aimed at targeting India or the Central government” tend to emerge during Parliament sessions.
To illustrate a pattern, Trivedi referenced multiple instances: the contentious farmers’ protest report from February 2021, the Pegasus revelations prior to the July 2021 session, the BBC documentary controversy just before the January 2023 session, and the Hindenburg-Adani report which dominated discussions just ahead of last year’s Budget session.
“The Congress must clarify why negative developments regarding India arise every time Rahul Gandhi travels abroad,” he asserted.
Directly addressing the Congress MP, Trivedi stated that even Rahul Gandhi’s security detail is “often unaware” of his travel arrangements. He questioned the identities of those who host the Gandhi scion overseas, pointing out that “no significant institution in India invites him for lectures,” and that even states governed by Congress avoid inviting him to speak to students.
“Who are these mysterious entities that invite him abroad and facilitate statements against India? With whom does he meet, and why are these encounters kept hidden?” Trivedi questioned.
He accused Rahul Gandhi of frequently visiting places where “individuals facing serious legal challenges in India” reside, branding his foreign engagements as suspicious.
This attack followed a graphic posted by Congress on X, which accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of traveling abroad during Parliament sessions.
Trivedi dismissed this accusation as “frustration,” arguing that the Opposition was wrongfully equating the Prime Minister's official diplomatic trips—conducted for strategic, economic, and international reasons—with Rahul Gandhi's “personal and unexplained foreign journeys.”
“PM Modi’s travels serve national interests. In contrast, Rahul Gandhi’s international trips, their timing, secrecy, and the people he engages with demand scrutiny,” he stated.
According to Trivedi, Rahul Gandhi's foreign excursions often coincide with the surfacing of international narratives that undermine India’s institutions, governance, and democratic processes.
He claimed that Rahul Gandhi “meets anti-India figures abroad” and subsequently returns to launch political attacks in India on the same issues, thereby amplifying narratives that have already been propagated internationally.
“The Congress should clarify: why is there a correlation between Rahul Gandhi's travel schedule and the emergence of negative global reports about India? Why does he engage with individuals known for their anti-India stance? And why do controversies escalate immediately after his return?” Trivedi challenged.
He urged the Opposition to focus on elucidating Rahul Gandhi's “mysterious overseas engagements” rather than criticizing the Prime Minister’s internationally sanctioned diplomatic missions.
“The Congress must cease misleading the public. The pressing issue is not about PM Modi’s official diplomatic duties, but rather Rahul Gandhi’s foreign connections, sponsors, audiences, and the foreign narratives that conveniently arise before every Parliament session,” he concluded.
