Bengaluru, Aug 11 (NationPress) K.N. Rajanna, a former minister and a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has been asked to resign following his comments regarding the purported election fraud issue. On Monday, he asserted that the Congress high command has misinterpreted his statements and expressed his intention to meet with national leaders in Delhi.
"I will travel to Delhi to meet the high command. I have been informed that there appears to be a misunderstanding from the high command about this issue. I plan to go with senior ministers and MLAs of the party to clarify this misunderstanding. I will act in accordance with the guidance of the national leadership," Rajanna stated.
Previously, Rajanna, who held the position of State Cooperation Minister, was directed to submit his resignation following his comments about the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's press conference concerning voter fraud. He remarked, "If there was voter fraud, the state Congress should have raised this issue much earlier."
Meanwhile, Deputy Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Arvind Bellad noted that Rajanna's resignation was prompted by his remarks against Rahul Gandhi's press conference on voter fraud.
He claimed that Shivakumar had pressured Chief Minister Siddaramaiah into taking action against Rajanna by demanding his resignation.
"This is a significant setback imposed by Shivakumar on Siddaramaiah," he alleged.
Bellad further asserted that this action sends a clear message to Siddaramaiah that his tenure is nearing its end. He also pointed out that another reason for the action against Rajanna was his previous accusation—without explicitly naming anyone—of being trapped in a honeytrap during the last assembly session.
In retaliation, Bellad claimed, Shivakumar ensured that repercussions were faced by Rajanna, signaling to Siddaramaiah that his time as Chief Minister is limited.
BJP MLC C.T. Ravi criticized the Congress party, asserting that "dictatorship is ingrained in the DNA" of the party, claiming that no one can challenge the leadership.
"By compelling Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna to resign, Congress has once again demonstrated that there is no space for honesty within the party," he stated.
He emphasized that Rajanna, a leader of the Valmiki community, was forced out for speaking the truth.
"This situation clearly illustrates that within the Congress, a single family wields absolute power, and questioning their actions is not tolerated. Anyone who speaks the truth, like Rajanna, will face similar consequences," he concluded.
