Bengaluru, Aug 11 (NationPress) Karnataka Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna has officially submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, sources disclosed on Monday.
Reports indicate that Siddaramaiah is making frantic efforts with the party's high command to retain Rajanna. However, the high command is reportedly disinclined to entertain Siddaramaiah's pleas and is upset over Rajanna’s comments regarding the election “fraud” allegations brought forth by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Rajanna's claim that election “fraud” occurred during the Congress administration in Karnataka and should have been addressed sooner has infuriated the party’s national leaders.
The high command has instructed Siddaramaiah to accept Rajanna's resignation and send it to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot without delay.
Sources have confirmed that Siddaramaiah is conducting a series of meetings at his office regarding this situation.
Rajanna had previously issued a direct challenge to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and stated in Delhi that he was prepared to assume the position of party president from Shivakumar. He also advocated for a Dalit Chief Minister should there be a change in leadership within the state. Rajanna is regarded as a close ally of Siddaramaiah.
Earlier, Rajanna remarked, “I am not clinging to power. I will respond by evening.”
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, mentioned on the floor of the House that Minister Rajanna had resigned two hours prior.
On August 8, Rajanna had stated, “Rahul Gandhi has made statements supported by documents. He is speaking with authority, and we must endorse his statements -- there is no doubt about it. The BJP is well aware of the malpractices. The RSS, the BJP's frontal organization, is manipulating everything.”
“The common people are with us. In the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency, voters have been enrolled without proper addresses. How is that even possible? During the parliamentary election, our government was in power -- we should have been more alert. Instead, we are alert only now. Had we acted earlier, we could have prevented these malpractices,” Minister Rajanna asserted.
“Out of the eight Assembly segments in the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat, we had leads in seven. In only one -- Mahadevapura -- we did not. That single loss tilted the overall result. Isn’t that clearly due to malpractice?” he questioned.
