Bengaluru, Aug 11 (NationPress) In a significant turn of events, the Congress party has opted to request the resignation of State Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna, a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, following his comments regarding alleged voter fraud that purportedly occurred during their administration in Karnataka, sources revealed on Monday.
The party leadership has instructed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to secure Minister Rajanna’s resignation immediately.
In the midst of this controversy, Minister Rajanna met with CM Siddaramaiah at his office within Vidhana Soudha.
In response to the unfolding situation, Rajanna remarked that he would address the matter after his meeting with the CM. “I am not clinging to power. I will provide a response by evening,” he indicated.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, asserted on the Assembly floor that Minister Rajanna had submitted his resignation two hours prior. “I challenge the government on this. If this is not true, let the Speaker suspend me for one year,” he proclaimed.
Ashoka also insisted that Minister Rajanna, who was present during the Assembly session, should clarify the issue instead of remaining silent.
Minister for Law H.K. Patil and Minister for Revenue Krishna Byre Gowda stated that unexpected media reports should not be discussed in the House.
Previously, Congress leaders lodged a complaint with Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala regarding Minister Rajanna’s allegations against the party concerning electoral fraud.
When questioned about Minister K.N. Rajanna’s assertion that the party should have addressed the alleged election fraud earlier, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar dismissed Rajanna’s remarks as misguided. “He doesn’t understand. My Chief Minister will respond to this, and the high command will investigate the matter,” Shivakumar stated.
On August 8, Rajanna had mentioned, “Rahul Gandhi has made statements supported by documents. He speaks with authority, and we must support his statements -- there is no doubt about it. The BJP is fully aware of the irregularities. The RSS, the BJP's affiliate organization, is orchestrating everything.”
“The general public is with us. In the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency, voters have been registered without valid addresses. How is that even feasible? During the parliamentary elections, our government was in power -- we should have been more vigilant. Instead, we are only becoming aware now. Had we acted sooner, we could have averted these irregularities,” Minister Rajanna remarked.
“Out of the eight Assembly segments in the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat, we led in seven. In only one -- Mahadevapura -- we did not. That single loss skewed the overall result. Isn’t that clearly a result of wrongdoing?” he questioned.
