Jaipur, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Assembly experienced dramatic turmoil on Saturday as a scheduled discussion regarding the state government's performance spiraled into disorder due to a conflict over the agenda, resulting in the House being adjourned three times throughout the day.

The uproar began when Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel proposed a debate focused on the BJP government’s performance over the last two years.

Opposition Leader Tika Ram Jully vehemently opposed this proposal, asserting that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) had previously consented to a more comprehensive debate that would compare the BJP government’s two-year performance with the Congress government’s five-year term.

Additionally, Govind Singh Dotasra, the state president of Congress, raised concerns about the Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s prior statements in the Assembly, where he seemingly welcomed the Opposition’s challenge for a “two years versus five years” discussion.

“If the Chief Minister’s statements are disregarded, what significance does this House hold?” Dotasra questioned, alleging that the modified proposal strayed from their earlier agreement and compromised the Chief Minister’s assurance.

The conflict quickly escalated into intense verbal exchanges between members of the ruling party and the Opposition, causing significant disruptions to the proceedings.

Congress MLAs moved into the well of the House, chanting slogans and protesting against the altered agenda, which compelled the Speaker to adjourn the Assembly for 30 minutes. However, the protests persisted upon reconvening, resulting in further adjournments.

Even when BJP MLA Atul Bhansali was called to initiate the debate later that evening, the Opposition continued their protests, leading to yet another adjournment of the House.

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Jully accused the government of attempting to evade accountability.

“The Chief Minister himself had agreed to a two years versus five years debate. Now the government seeks to limit the discussion solely to its two-year report, raising concerns about transparency and accountability,” he stated.

Jully emphasized that such a debate could have allowed the people of Rajasthan to evaluate and contrast the performance of both administrations.

Meanwhile, MLAs from the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) also protested within the Assembly, donning T-shirts and displaying placards demanding a CBI investigation into alleged paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment.

They chanted slogans during the proceedings, further escalating the disruptions and contributing to repeated adjournments of the House.
