Congress Intensifies Strategy Against Bhajanlal Sharma's Government in Rajasthan Assembly
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Budget Session of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly is set to be quite pivotal, as the opposition Congress gears up to sharpen its tactics against the incumbent government.
The assembly is hosting a meeting at Vidhan Sabha, which commenced at 10 a.m. to deliberate on their approach.
In response to a significant uproar that transpired on Saturday regarding Assembly protocols, Congress has convened this high-level Legislature Party meeting to outline its future actions. The focus is on honing the party's strategy to challenge the administration led by Bhajanlal Sharma during the Assembly proceedings. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is also present at this gathering.
The opposition's goal is to amplify its dissent over alleged procedural infringements and deviations from established Assembly customs.
The fifth session of the 16th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has been mired in controversy due to disagreements over the agenda for discussion.
Opposition Whip Rafiq Khan, in a statement to IANS, accused the government of inconsistencies between the agreements reached in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting and the report submitted in the Assembly.
He asserted that the government breached Assembly regulations by presenting a proposal that solely highlighted the government's two-year achievements instead of facilitating a comparative discourse on the BJP's two-year term versus the Congress's five-year period, as previously discussed.
“The government disregarded Assembly protocols and procedures. The agenda and proposal were altered, which contradicts parliamentary standards,” Khan declared, citing Rule 263 to support his claims.
On the other hand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel dismissed the accusations, labeling the opposition's protests as groundless and politically motivated.
He claimed that the proposal was collectively agreed upon in the BAC meeting and later sanctioned by the House.
Patel also suggested there were internal conflicts within the Congress, asserting that the party leadership was reluctant for the Leader of Opposition to address the Assembly.
With both factions maintaining their stances, the proceedings on Monday are anticipated to feature heated discussions and potential disruptions. The ongoing controversy surrounding procedural adherence and political signaling is expected to dominate the Assembly’s activities, with Congress strategizing aggressive maneuvers to confront the government.
