Why is the Rajasthan Cabinet Traveling to Gujarat for Good Governance?

Jaipur, May 5 (NationPress) In a crucial political and administrative move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a campaign aimed at enhancing collaboration between the government and party structure in Rajasthan, prioritizing good governance and fostering long-term public support.

As part of this plan, the entire Rajasthan government, including Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, his cabinet, both Deputy Chief Ministers, 115 BJP MLAs, 14 Lok Sabha MPs, four Rajya Sabha MPs, six supporting MLAs, and key organizational leaders, are traveling to Kevadia, Gujarat.

From May 5 to 7, they will engage in a three-day “Good Governance Training Camp” at the Statue of Unity complex, focusing on understanding the essential principles of the ‘Gujarat Model’.

This endeavor reflects the BJP’s broader ambition of emulating Gujarat’s successful governance model in Rajasthan.

While the BJP has consistently held power in Gujarat since 1995, Rajasthan has experienced frequent shifts in leadership, with no party managing to secure back-to-back terms since 1998. Through this training, the Rajasthan BJP aims to adopt a governance framework that ensures stability, administrative effectiveness, and lasting public trust.

The training sessions will cover various critical topics, including the essentials of good governance, internal discipline and communication within the party, public engagement strategies, and methods for gathering feedback from grassroots levels.

Leaders will also receive training on effective planning for upcoming Panchayat and civic body elections. A significant emphasis will be placed on soliciting honest feedback from MLAs regarding the performance of their ministers and the government, providing vital insights to enhance operations at both organizational and administrative levels.

The camp, officially titled the “Good Governance Conference”, will be facilitated by some of the BJP’s leading national figures. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, National Organisation General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Bhupender Yadav, BJP Organisation Pracharak V. Satish, along with Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathod and Organisation General Secretary Ratnakar, will guide the participants. All attendees will be accommodated in Tent City-2, a well-equipped facility situated near the Statue of Unity, which symbolizes national unity and organizational strength.

Though the absence of key government officials from Rajasthan during this period may temporarily halt routine administrative functions, the BJP perceives this training camp as a strategic investment. The objective is to establish a foundation for a more stable, people-oriented, and performance-driven government in Rajasthan -- akin to what the party has accomplished in Gujarat.

In the meantime, commenting on the situation, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully noted, "It is ironic that the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, his entire cabinet, and the complete group of BJP MLAs are being called to Gujarat to receive training on how to govern. Does this imply that an untrained administration has been leading Rajasthan for the past year and a half? Until now, there were whispers that Rajasthan’s government was being indirectly controlled from Gujarat. Now, it seems to be happening openly and officially. Ironically, at a time when the government and its legislators should be addressing pressing summer issues like electricity shortages, water supply, and healthcare, they are instead relaxing in tent accommodations by the Narmada River."

Former CM Ashok Gehlot stated, "When the BJP plotted to topple our government, we had no option but to keep our MLAs together in a hotel for a few days to prevent any poaching attempts. Despite the BJP's financial influence, truth prevailed, and our government remained intact."

"However, what’s unfolding now is quite astonishing. Starting today, the entire Rajasthan government -- including the Chief Minister and the BJP’s legislative team -- is heading to Gujarat for 'training' at a lavish tent resort. It’s unprecedented for an entire government to undergo training a year and a half after taking office. Does the BJP leadership believe that the Rajasthan government has failed so badly that it now requires basic training? One must question: What kind of training is this that cannot be done within Rajasthan itself?" he remarked.

"During our tenure, we successfully hosted global events like the G-20 meetings in cities such as Jaipur and Udaipur. So why is it that the BJP’s Chief Minister and MLAs need to travel outside the state for governance training? At a time when the people of Rajasthan are facing a breakdown in law and order, severe water and electricity shortages during peak summer, and inadequate medical infrastructure, the entire BJP leadership is out of the state -- seemingly enjoying themselves by the Narmada River. The people of Rajasthan are observing, and they will remember this," Gehlot added.
