Key Takeaways
Chennai, Dec 9 (NationPress) The legendary Superstar Rajinikanth has recently revealed that he originally envisioned actress Aishwarya Rai in the formidable role of Neelambari in his acclaimed film 'Padayappa', which is scheduled to make a comeback in theaters on December 12.
Rajinikanth shared this revelation in a video titled 'The Return of Padayappa', released ahead of the film's re-release. To commemorate his 75th birthday, his blockbuster 'Padayappa' will hit the screens again on December 12.
In the newly released video, Rajinikanth discussed various intriguing aspects of the film that were not previously disclosed.
The Superstar mentioned, "Every time I thought of the Neelambari character, Aishwarya Rai would come to mind. I believed she was the perfect fit for this role. We endeavored for nearly three months to secure her dates. We even attempted to contact her through family members. If she had indicated her interest, we would have been willing to wait a year for her. This character needed to resonate; otherwise, the film wouldn't succeed. Eventually, we realized she was not keen on the role."
Rajinikanth also recounted that when it became necessary to search for an alternative actress, he emphasized to director Ravikumar that the Neelambari role had to be potent for the film's success. Despite numerous suggestions, finding someone with captivating eyes proved challenging.
"I told Ravikumar that unless we found the right candidate with striking eyes for this role, we should put the project on hold," Rajinikanth reflected. Ultimately, it was K S Ravikumar who proposed Ramya Krishnan, and she joined the cast.
For those not in the know, Ramya Krishnan's portrayal of Neelambari received widespread critical acclaim, significantly boosting her popularity.
Rajinikanth also mentioned in the video that discussions for a sequel to 'Padayappa' are underway.
"In my five decades in the film industry, 'Padayappa' was the first film that drew women to theaters in large numbers. With recent successes like '2.0' and 'Jailer 2', it struck me that we should create a sequel to 'Padayappa'. In the first installment, Neelambari hinted that she would seek revenge in her next life. Therefore, the sequel may be titled 'Neelambari - Padayappa 2'. If executed well, it could become another festival-like celebration for fans.
In the video clip, Rajinikanth also disclosed that he was the film’s original producer and that he conceived the story.
