Jaipur, July 16 (NationPress) Union Minister and National President of the Republican Party of India, Ramdas Athawale, delivered a compelling statement regarding the ongoing Marathi-Hindi language controversy in Maharashtra.
During a media interaction in Jaipur, Athawale emphasized the significance of promoting the Marathi language, but denounced the use of violence or coercion in its advocacy.
“Understanding Marathi is commendable, but harassment and violence against others is intolerable. Our government will not condone such actions. In Maharashtra, 60% of residents hail from other states, with 40% of these individuals being fluent in Marathi,” he asserted.
Athawale criticized both Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray for acting contrary to the principles of Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of the Shiv Sena.
“Balasaheb championed justice for Marathi individuals and established diverse wings — Gujarati, North Indian, and South Indian — to unite everyone. Yet, the current approaches of Uddhav and Raj contradict his vision,” he remarked.
He stressed that the Maharashtra government, under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, is fully equipped to address these challenges and ensure peace in Mumbai.
“Using bullying in the name of Marathi pride is inappropriate. We can counter hostility, but our goal is to foster peace,” he stated.
On the topic of national politics, Athawale noted that the opposition attempted to mislead voters during the Lok Sabha elections by claiming that the BJP intended to alter the Constitution.
“No one can alter Ambedkar's Constitution. The Congress has tried to confuse the public by showcasing copies of the Constitution. Despite governing for years, they have never faced such formidable opposition as they have from Prime Minister Modi since 2014,” he observed.
In conclusion, Athawale expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, stating, “Our aim is clear — Modi should serve as Prime Minister until 2029.”
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership on Wednesday, asserting that under his administration, India is poised to become the fourth-largest economy globally.
“Over the past decade, more than 25 crore individuals have ascended above the poverty line. PM Modi is effecting significant change,” he remarked.
While acknowledging that retirement at 75 is generally acceptable, Athawale reaffirmed that as a member of the NDA, his party staunchly believes that PM Modi should remain in office until 2029.
Regarding the ongoing voter verification initiative in Bihar, Athawale supported the efforts of the Election Commission.
He clarified that the Election Commission operates independently and is not affiliated with the BJP. However, he voiced concerns regarding potential illegal voters, particularly individuals from Bangladesh residing in Bihar with fraudulent voter ID cards.
“To tackle this issue, the Election Commission has commenced document verification, including the birth certificates of each voter, which is both necessary and appropriate,” he concluded.
