Mumbai, July 1 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis proclaimed on Tuesday that in Maharashtra, there is a singular necessity: Marathi, which must be embraced by all.
In a pointed remark aimed at Shiv Sena UBT Chief Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister noted, “While we take pride in Hindi too, we cherish every language. However, we will not permit anyone to roll out a red carpet for English at the expense of Indian languages. A committee has been established to decide on the trilingual formula in favor of Maharashtra's students, free from external pressures.”
Fadnavis further criticized Thackeray, asserting that since the BJP assumed power, the government has transformed Mumbai, yet the opposition has driven the Marathi populace out of the city.
Speaking at the state BJP executive council meeting, where Ravindra Chavan was elected unopposed as the Maharashtra president, Fadnavis continued to target Uddhav Thackeray, who, alongside his estranged brother and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena founder Raj Thackeray, is planning a victory rally on July 5 following the government's withdrawal of resolutions regarding the introduction of Hindi alongside Marathi and English for grades 1 to 5.
“You (Uddhav Thackeray) have been engaging in politics solely in the name of Marathi. We are the ones who provided a home for that Marathi man in BDD Chawla. After elections, they suddenly remember the Marathi Manoos,” he remarked.
He stated that the committee established by Thackeray’s government for the new education policy had recommended making Hindi and English compulsory from grades 1 to 12 alongside Marathi.
“We are not concerned with who should form alliances. Our focus is on the welfare of Maharashtra,” asserted the Chief Minister.
“Farmers across Maharashtra must thrive, and the youth should secure employment. We have restored Maharashtra to a leading position by signing contracts worth Rs 16 lakh crore. Our goal is to enhance the lives of farmers and eliminate droughts. Since 2014, we have delivered on our promises. We are not mere speakers; the public is aware of our accomplishments,” he emphasized.
He also mentioned that all three factions of the MahaYuti are committed to constructing a new Maharashtra. He affirmed that PM Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ will also encompass ‘Viksit Maharashtra’.
“Maharashtra will not settle for anything less than becoming the finest state in the nation,” he declared.
Regarding Ravindra Chavan’s election as state BJP chief, Fadnavis remarked, “Our connection is with Hindutva. Here, even a tea vendor can rise to become the Prime Minister. Ravindra Chavan has progressed from a corporator to a general secretary, MLA, and minister. He embodies courage and tenacity.”
He highlighted that at least one Konkani should assume the state president role; now Chavan has filled that void.
“Chavan is a person who diligently fulfills responsibilities, thinks about the BJP at all times, and works for the BJP around the clock,” he noted.
The Chief Minister also commended outgoing state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule for his tireless efforts in building the party.
