Gangtok/Itanagar, Jan 13 (NationPress) During a two-day official visit to Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General K.T. Parnaik (Retd) suggested initiating a structured exchange programme between the two Himalayan states aimed at students, young entrepreneurs, and government officials, particularly emphasizing horticulture and related sectors.
The visiting Governor engaged with his Sikkim counterpart Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhavan, Gangtok, where they addressed various matters of mutual interest. Both Governors extended their heartfelt wishes for peace, progress, and prosperity to the residents of their respective states.
Lt General Parnaik (Retd) highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s rich cultural legacy, ethnic diversity, and vast tourism potential, which spans eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and spiritual as well as cultural circuits.
In advocating for structured exchange programmes, he stated that these initiatives would facilitate the sharing of best practices in organic farming, high-value crops, post-harvest management, value addition, and market linkages.
Moreover, he proposed collaboration in capacity-building, exposure visits, and joint training programmes to enhance human resources in both states. By recognizing the shared strengths and aspirations of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, the Governor noted that Sikkim, as India’s first fully organic state and a rapidly growing tourist hotspot, could impart valuable lessons, while Arunachal Pradesh possesses significant untapped potential.
He asserted that fostering deeper cooperation could yield mutual benefits in areas such as sustainable tourism, eco-friendly infrastructure, environmental conservation, skill development, and the promotion of local products. Such collaborative efforts would not only improve livelihoods but also strengthen interpersonal relationships and reinforce the spirit of cooperative federalism among the Himalayan states.
Additionally, the Arunachal Governor extended his best wishes to the people of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Pongal, acknowledging the Tamil community residing and contributing to Arunachal Pradesh’s social and cultural landscape through their dedicated efforts.
In his message, he articulated that Pongal, a harvest festival of gratitude, celebrates the sacred connection between nature, farmers, and society.
