Director Ram’s Film ‘Paranthu Po’ Selected for Rotterdam Film Festival

Chennai, Jan 31 (NationPress) Director Ram's upcoming film ‘Paranthu Po’, featuring actors Mirchi Shiva, Anjali, Grace Antony, and master Mithul Ryan in prominent roles, has been officially chosen for the Rotterdam Film Festival.

This film is a cheerful, uplifting musical comedy centered on a headstrong schoolboy and his affectionate yet financially struggling father. The narrative explores the adventure that unfolds when they embark on a road trip, escaping the pressures of urban life.

The first look of the film has been unveiled on the social media channels of Disney+ Hotstar.

Commenting on ‘Paranthu Po’'s selection for the Rotterdam film festival, director Ram expressed, “Following ‘Peranbu’ (Resurrection) and ‘Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai’ (Seven Seas Seven Hills), I am excited for this film to debut at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). When ‘Seven Seas Seven Hills’ was showcased at IFFR 2024, Mithul Ryan inquired if ‘Paranthu Po’ (Fly Away) would also be presented there and if he could attend the festival in Rotterdam. I am pleased that a year later, his wish has come true. ‘Paranthu Po’ (Fly Away) is set for its world premiere in the Limelight section of IFFR 2025.” Both Shiva and he will be present at the premiere on February 4 at 8 PM at de Doelen Jurriaanse Zaal.

Discussing Mirchi Shiva, the lead actor, Ram shared, “Shiva and I launched our careers in 2007 - he with ‘Chennai 28’ and I with ‘Katrathu Tamil’. At that time, he was employed at Radio Mirchi and interviewed me. We have been friends since and have always aspired to work together. Finally, it materialized with ‘Paranthu Po’ in 2024.”

‘Paranthu Po’ marks Ram's initial foray into the comedy genre.

“This film signifies my first exploration into feel-good comedy, showcasing a talented ensemble cast. Grace Antony, recognized for her performances in Malayalam cinema, was my ideal choice due to her innate comedic talent. As ever, Anjali has been tremendously supportive. Aju Varghese and Vijay Yesudas have played crucial roles during both filming and dubbing, facilitating a smooth process. I am also thrilled to introduce Master Mithul Ryan, a promising young actor whose genuine performance will undoubtedly captivate audiences. Collaborating with Hotstar has been a fantastic experience - they believed in my vision and allowed me to remain faithful to my original script. The entire team made this journey peaceful and enjoyable,” Ram stated.

Written and directed by Ram, ‘Parandhu Po’ is a production of Disney+ Hotstar in association with Seven Seas and Seven Hills Productions.

The film’s background score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with music provided by Santhosh Dhayanithi. The cinematography is handled by NK Ekhambram, while Mathi VS is responsible for editing.

Lyrics for the film's songs are penned by Madhan Karky, and the action sequences are choreographed by Stunt Silva.
