Mumbai, Nov 25 (NationPress) Actor and producer Ravi Dubey highlighted the hurdles that independent filmmakers face, emphasizing that numerous skilled creators find it challenging to secure appropriate platforms for their work.

In an exclusive interview with IANS at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the ‘Jamai Raja’ star expressed that limited funding, inadequate resources, and restricted access to the industry frequently hinder their progress. He underscored the urgent necessity for enhanced support for India's indie film sector.

When questioned about the importance of IFFI for independent filmmakers, Ravi Dubey remarked, “IFFI is the paramount platform. In my opinion, there is no larger venue in the country for filmmakers, and it stands as one of the most crucial globally. Many independent filmmakers possess remarkable talent, yet they often lack the opportunity to present their work. They face challenges like insufficient funds and resources. Events like this allow them to connect with producers and financiers who might be interested in their narratives.”

Reflecting on attending the festival for the first time with his wife, Sargun Mehta, Ravi shared his regret about not experiencing it sooner.

“Indeed, this is our first visit, and honestly, I wish I had come earlier. We’ve met numerous new individuals, explored new technologies, and realized how interconnected many creators are in this field. We also witnessed the launch of new talent. We are genuinely thrilled to be here.”

When asked how he perceives himself as a filmmaker at this point in his journey, the ‘Saas Bina Sasural’ actor conveyed that he still sees himself in the early stages, continuously learning and observing the environment around him. He acknowledged that the inquiry is broad and one he doesn’t yet feel fully prepared to answer.

“I feel I am still in the initial phase. I am constantly learning and watching the people around me. This is a vast question, and I don’t think I am fully equipped to respond. However, I genuinely believe that there are exceptional filmmakers out there, especially many young creators who bring fresh perspectives and vibrant energy. Festivals like this amplify such voices. So, if anyone thinks stories are lacking, that is not the case. The storytellers are present, and platforms like these foster remarkable collaborations,” Ravie Dubey stated.

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which commenced on November 20, will conclude on November 28. This year’s closing ceremony will pay homage to south superstar Rajinikanth, celebrating his illustrious 50-year journey in cinema.
