London, July 10 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant is currently receiving treatment for an injury to his left index finger, which he sustained during the third match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lord’s. While Pant is being monitored by the medical staff, reserve wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has stepped in to fulfill wicketkeeping duties for India.
The incident occurred in the second session of play during the 34th over when Pant was struck on the fingertips of his left hand while trying to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, which was bowled down the leg side to Ollie Pope.
According to the BCCI's official update shared on their ‘X’ account, “India vice-captain Rishabh Pant was hit on his left index finger and is currently receiving treatment under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is now keeping wickets in Rishabh's absence.”
After diving to intercept the ball, Pant was seen grimacing in pain while being treated by physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain. Despite the injury, he managed to remain on the field for the remainder of the over, but later left for further treatment once it concluded.
Jurel has previously served as India's wicketkeeper in three Tests during the home series against England in 2024 and has also been involved in matches against the England Lions before the five-match Test series commenced. Notably, he had filled in for Pant when the latter injured his knee during the Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru in October 2024.
Visuals later captured head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak rising from their seats in the dressing room balcony to observe Pant as he arrived with Jain in the Indian team’s inner sanctum. Throughout the ongoing tour, Pant has amassed a total of 342 runs across two matches, averaging 85.50, including two centuries in the series opener at Headingley.
