New Delhi, July 13 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari expressed high regard for team India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant, asserting that if he maintains his distinctive style of play, he could be remembered as the greatest wicketkeeper of all time.

Pant has made a significant impact in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, amassing 416 runs in just five innings, which includes two centuries at Headingley.

“Rishabh Pant is truly one of a kind; his gameplay is exceptional. His mindset and approach set him apart from other batters, creating an unpredictable dynamic in matches. While he sometimes takes risks that lead to losing his wicket, his success rate is commendable. Historically, Indian wicket-keeper batters have struggled to contribute significantly with the bat, but Pant's performance is changing that narrative,” Tiwari told IANS.

Pant currently ranks as the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing five-Test series, right behind skipper Shubman Gill. Gill has been in sensational form, breaking multiple records against England at Edgbaston and accumulating 601 runs thus far.

Tiwari credited Gill's improved technique for helping him adapt to in-swinging deliveries. “Gill is performing exceptionally well and has made critical adjustments to his batting technique. Previously, he would get bowled by incoming balls, but he has worked on minimizing the gap between bat and ball. This enhancement allows him to play straight and maintain control. He seems to have embraced the responsibilities of captaincy while batting, which is inspiring to see from a young player,” Tiwari remarked.

The Lord's Test also marked the return of Jasprit Bumrah, the No. 1 ranked bowler, to the Indian team. After being rested for workload management, he replaced Prasidh Krishna and delivered an impressive performance, taking 5 wickets for 74 runs, securing his spot on the Lord's Honours Board. Tiwari highlighted Bumrah's crucial role in the team.

“Bumrah's presence on the field is often a game-changer. The way he bowls indicates that he will continue to challenge batters effectively. His skill and cricketing intelligence are remarkable. Across formats, he has been India's cornerstone. When he plays, the team's confidence soars,” Tiwari concluded.
