The incident took place late Thursday night while authorities were trying to capture suspects linked to a robbery.
In the course of the operation, one criminal was shot in the leg and subsequently taken into custody.
This event is connected to a robbery that occurred on January 9 in the Katahra area under the Maner police jurisdiction, where assailants opened fire on a gold merchant.
Footage of the crime, which was recorded on CCTV, went viral on social media, leading to rapid police intervention.
The arrested individual has been identified as Nitish Kumar, a resident of Chaurasi village in the Maner police jurisdiction.
Kumar is one of the three primary suspects involved in the robbery of Sanjay Soni, a gold merchant.
Patna City SP (West), Bhanu Pratap Singh, provided details about the incident, explaining that late Thursday night, a dedicated investigation team was formed to look into the matter and apprehended the primary suspect.
The task force included the Danapur ASP, the Maner Station House Officer, and other police personnel.
However, the firearm used in the robbery was hidden in a different location.
During questioning, the suspect directed the police to Ratan Tola Ghat for the recovery of the weapon, according to the SP.
Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to evade capture by firing at the police team with the stolen weapon.
During the encounter, Maner SHO Rajneesh Kumar narrowly avoided being hit by a bullet fired by the suspect. In retaliation, the police fired back, resulting in the suspect sustaining a bullet wound to his leg before being subdued and arrested.
The City SP (West) stated that an additional case will be filed against the suspect for assaulting law enforcement.
Authorities are also examining his previous criminal history. The injured suspect has been admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment under police supervision.
The officer emphasized that two other criminals were implicated in the robbery.
While Kumar is the main suspect, police have already identified the other two and assured that their apprehension is imminent.
