Guwahati, May 9 (NationPress) In light of rising security threats nationwide, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken significant measures to bolster its security strategies at railway stations, on trains, and throughout railway premises, an official announced on Friday.
The NFR, one of the 17 railway zones in India, operates across the northeastern states, as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of northern Bihar.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that due to the current national security climate, the newly implemented security measures are designed to combat various threats, including child and human trafficking, drugging incidents, stone pelting, and other forms of unrest.
In close partnership with railway authorities, the RPF is actively working to enhance security and surveillance throughout the entire NFR network.
“Our security protocols include organized joint patrols with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local law enforcement agencies to maintain a secure atmosphere at railway stations and along tracks,” said the CPRO.
As part of its escalated security initiatives, the NFR has successfully executed coordinated mock drills at key railway stations in association with district administrations.
These drills, featuring air siren alerts and blackout procedures, were conducted to evaluate and improve emergency response readiness.
To ensure passenger safety, the NFR has strengthened women’s security by deploying enhanced Anti-Crime Patrol (ACP) units and dedicated teams focused on women's safety.
Anti-Trafficking Operations have also seen an increase to combat illegal activities and protect the dignity and safety of all travelers, Sharma remarked.
On Thursday (May 8), while conducting a routine inspection of the Tripura Sundari Express train, the RPF displayed remarkable vigilance.
The CPRO noted that during an examination of an empty general coach, two unattended bags were discovered on the upper berth. Upon further investigation, the bags were found to contain eight pistols and 16 empty magazines.
The RPF team promptly secured the firearms and transferred them to the RPF Post in Agartala for subsequent legal action. Following this, the Director General of Tripura police (Intelligence), Anurag, visited the Agartala railway station to assess the incident and the successful recovery.
During the inspection, the DGP Intelligence personally commended RPF personnel Anjan Pal and Ashim Aich for their swift and effective actions in maintaining railway security.
The NFR is fully committed to enhancing the safety and security of passengers and railway assets. Ongoing enhancements are being made to security protocols in response to evolving threats, as stated by the NFR CPRO.
He emphasized that the RPF, with steadfast dedication and a strong commitment to public safety, continually takes proactive measures to ensure a secure and reliable railway environment for all travelers.
