Moscow, March 1 (NationPress) On Saturday, Russia referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's trip to the United States as a "total political and diplomatic catastrophe" for the Kyiv government.

This response from Moscow followed Zelensky's public confrontation with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office, which made headlines globally.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated, "The Russian side has consistently communicated at all levels that V. Zelensky is unfit, corrupt, and incapable of reaching agreements. It was the Kyiv government that opted not to pursue further negotiations for a political and diplomatic resolution in the spring of 2022, employing falsehoods and manipulation to justify ongoing hostilities and the acquisition of Western military and financial aid."

"During his visit to Washington, V. Zelensky demonstrated his boorishness, confirming that he poses the most significant threat to the global community as an irresponsible instigator of a major conflict. It is crucial for everyone to recognize how unequivocal such statements are from a leader of terrorists," Zakharova continued.

She further characterized Zelensky as a "cynic who disregards everything" and someone solely focused on maintaining the power he has seized.

"In pursuit of this goal, he has dismantled the opposition, established a totalitarian regime, and relentlessly sends millions of his fellow citizens to their demise. Under the worsening political circumstances for the Kyiv government, this individual lacks the capacity to act responsibly and is thus fixated on prolonging the war, rejecting peace which he equates to death," Zakharova asserted.

Moscow emphasized that the "reprimand" given to Zelensky in the White House was unprecedented in the annals of international politics and diplomacy.

"As always, we maintain that a genuinely fair and sustainable peace can only be achieved through the complete resolution of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis. The primary issues include the West's breach of promises regarding NATO expansion and the absorption of the entire geopolitical landscape of Europe up to the Russian borders, as well as the systemic eradication by the Kyiv government, akin to the German Nazis of the past, of everything Russian: language, culture, and church," the foreign ministry's statement concluded.
