New Delhi, July 4 (NationPress) Members of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will serve as special guests during the 30th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, scheduled for July 6 at 6,000 locations nationwide, including the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, according to an official announcement made on Friday.
This single-day event is expected to see over 50,000 individuals cycling across the nation, promoting a healthier and pollution-free India.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya remarked, “Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a widespread movement. This week, we are collaborating with RWAs for the event.”
“I encourage all citizens and communities to join this initiative and engage in fitness activities like cycling and Yoga to combat lifestyle diseases and mitigate pollution in their neighborhoods,” Mandaviya added.
Launched in December 2024, the 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' initiative has been held in numerous locations across the country, with participation exceeding 50,000 individuals weekly, as per official statements.
The main event on July 6 will kick off at 7 a.m. from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Cyclists will ride around India Gate C Hexagon and proceed to Vijay Chowk on Kartavya Path before returning to the stadium.
The aim of collaborating with RWAs is to promote sustainability and foster connections within local communities across India, as stated in the announcement.
According to official estimates, there are approximately 5-6 lakh RWAs in India, which play a crucial role in raising awareness about adopting a healthy and active lifestyle. RWAs are actively encouraging residents to partake in cycling, Yoga, and daily fitness activities.
The cycling event will be simultaneously organized in all State and Union Territory capitals, alongside Sports Authority of India Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India centres (KICs), catering to various age groups.
In previous events, participants have included members of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Goods and Services Tax Council, and the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI).
Additionally, the cycling initiative has attracted sports icons such as Lovlina Borgohain, Priyanka Goswami, Rani Rampal, Rodali Barua, Sangram Singh, Shanky Singh, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, and Paris Paralympics medallists like Nitesh Kumar, Manisha Ramadass, Rubina Francis, and Simran Sharma (para world champion), alongside celebrities such as Amit Sial, Rahul Bose, Madhurima Tuli, Mia Maelzer, and Gul Panag.
